Smokey’s Spay Surgery Journey: Her Road to Recovery!

I just Want to Feel Better” Smokey

The one thing a cat doesn’t like is to not feel well and to be off focus. When they feel this way, they always go and hide.

Taking care of my fur baby after her spay surgery last Thursday felt like a delicate balancing act. She was in so much discomfort, and it pained me to witness her distress. Her feisty spirit shone through as she put up a spirited fight, her sharp claws eager for freedom, while the e-collar seemed to irritate her even more. I understood that her reluctance stemmed from the pain she was feeling, but that didn’t make it any easier watching her react with such fierce energy, almost as if she was glaring at me to scratch my eyes out.

Sick cats seek solitude to avoid predators. Respect their space for recovery and bond. Observe their body language and offer comfort from a distance for peaceful healing.

By Friday, a transformation began to take shape as she gradually returned to her normal self. The healing outfit perhaps had lost its battle for her affection, and I saw the glimmers of her usual charm returning. With cautious optimism, I offered her some food, and to my heart’s relief, she finally began to eat. It was a moment of triumph as I witnessed her spirit shine again, a sweet reminder of her resilience. Though I was elated, my concerns were far from extinguished, leading into a fretful Saturday.

My worries peaked when I discovered she had vomited, leaving me in a state of panic. Knowing I needed to shield her from any additional stress, I made the difficult decision to separate her from my other dog, ensuring she had a calm space to heal. That night, I chose to sleep in her room. She is a cherished remnant of my partner who transitioned last year, and I couldn’t bear the thought of losing her too. My eyes remained on her, monitoring her every move, grateful she was eating her usual Sheba wet food, and taking comfort knowing my other fur babies—Garfield, and Max—were thriving as well.

Amidst this whirlwind of worries and tender moments, I found solace in the preparations for a new week ahead. As I gathered my camera gear for Monday's NYFW Model Casting Call, a sense of purpose steadied me. My Canon, iPad, cables, and Beats by Dre were all lined up, ready for action. Ensuring my outfit complemented the sophisticated ambiance of the event became a final touch to my eager anticipation. As I prepared to transition into the buzzing world of fashion, I felt a flicker of hope, knowing that both my profession and my love for my fur baby were intertwined. Good night, and I look forward to what the week holds.
